Open Broadcaster Software is also known as OBS Studio used by millions of people around the world, and I am one of them. It offers OBS Streaming, OBS screen recorder, and OBS gameplay recorder. I have seen a lot of screen recorder that offers webcam & gameplay recording functions along with the OBS streaming functions, but they charge a few bucks per year to use it.
Open Broadcaster Software or OBS streaming is freeware because it is an open-source project developed, so people don’t have to pay a single penny on the development & use the OBS streaming. It does give a challenge to the big time feature offered by the Nvidia Shadowplay & AMD Relive.

We know that many of you have never heard of the OBS streaming or the OBS Studio because the paid programs invest a lot of money on advertising and SEO. The promotion & SEO is one of the major factors why OBS Studio is at the bottom of the result.
However, its used by millions of gamers around the world, and even popular YouTuber’s like RiceGum, PewDiePie, and many other popular gamers have used OBS Studio because it packs some premium features & stability for low-end PC’s like no other program.
It also has a fair share of the PROS & CONS, but I would recommend it to anyone because it is a premium software launched for free.

- You get frequent software updates & bug fixes.
- The file size is only 66MB (230 MB after Installation,) and it supports older machines as well.
- OBS gameplay recording and OBS streaming work smoothly on mid-range laptops & desktops.
- It enables you to increase, decreases, adds, changes, and customize the audio bitrate.
- You can go to the OBS streaming settings & select 30+ streaming sites, server locations, stream type (customize streaming server.)
- In the output, you have the option to select video bitrate, encoder, audio bitrate, recording quality, recording format (MP4, FLV, TS, MOV, M3U8, MKV,) and more.
- In the video, you can select the resolution, output scale, downscale, and common FPS value.
- You also have an advanced option, and you have the options to select Video, Audio, Recording, and Stream delay.
- The OSB streaming also enables you to add hotkeys to quickly record, stream, stop and exit.
It comes with an auto-wizard that automatically test your hardware and sets the right settings for recording, but it has flaws as well. I would recommend you to use it first, then check what it suggests, then tweak the changes to increase video quality.
How to Set-up OBS Streaming using Auto-wizard?
If you are a new player, then allow us to assist you in setting the right configuration for streaming and recording.
Step 1: Launch the program, and click on tools, then click on “auto-configuration wizard.”
Step 2: Now, you have the option to select two configurations but select “optimize for streaming, recording is secondary.”
Step 3: You have to select resolution, and FPS, then click on “next” to proceed. If you are using a high-end machine, then I recommend you to keep the resolution & FPS the same.
Step 4: Now, you have to select (1) streaming service > (2) service, (3) add stream key, (4) click on it to estimate the bitrate & bandwidth. And, click on next to complete the process.
Step 5: The program will begin testing your hardware, so I recommend you to close every application, and programs from the background.
The suggested settings will show up on your screen, and then click “apply settings” to complete the process.
How to Set-up OBS Streaming for the Low-end machine?
The OBS Studio designed for 2010 or above-manufactured computers, but they have allowed the users to tweak the settings to make it compatible for the low-end machines, and I have tested it on Pentium E2180 Dual-core 2.0Ghz, 2GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, and Windows 7 64-bit OS.
It is a 2007 manufactured machine, and I have added Nvidia GT 430 1GB card in it.
Step 1: Click on tools from the top menu.
Step 2: Now, you have to select “auto-configuration wizard.”
Step 3: Now, you have to select optimize for recording, and not for streaming.
Step 4: The default settings are already set, but we cannot use it.
Step 5: I have set custom settings, and you can add it to make it compatible. You can use the display resolution like 1920x1080P or 1366x768P. In case, if you want to improve the FPS, then I recommend you to go for the 1280x720P resolution.
Step 6: The program will begin testing your machine, and it takes a few moments.
Step 7: Now, apply the settings to seal the deal.
Step 8: You can click on the “settings” and click on “streaming” to configure it, but the resolution & output scale of the recording remains the same. The OBS streaming affects your computer performance because it is busy recording the gameplay.
You might have issues recording your gameplay because the older machine can barely handle the games, and if you record it, then it might not work at all.
You cannot blame the OBS Studio because I have tried many computers, and recording programs and they fail to record as well.

- I have used it for a while, and I can tell you that you can use it for screen recording on a low-end PC as well.
- OBS streaming supports wide-range of services & websites.
- It supports advanced encoding like Intel, AMD Radeon, and Nvidia Cuda.
- It supports Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux and it also supports older OS as well.
- The interface is a little complicated for the beginners, and I recommend you to play around with the options for a week to master it.
- It does not support Windows XP or any older. It applies to the other operating systems as well.
- I have seen it freeze & it did not stop the recording, and I think it’s a bug.
- I had nightmare configuring the settings for recording the game on a low-end PC.
It gives a challenge to the rival programs, and it’s worth giving a shot at it.
